Accelerating Carbon Removal: Your Impact and the Progress of New Companies

Introduction: United in the Fight Against Climate Change

As a proud member of Stripe Climate, a coalition of businesses accelerating carbon removal, I am excited to share the progress we have made together in our fight against climate change! Thanks to your generous contributions, since January 2021, we have been able to support new carbon removal companies and technologies.

Recent Milestones: Supporting Emerging Carbon Removal Companies

Most recently, Stripe Climate made its largest round of carbon removal purchases, supporting nine emerging companies, with 89% of them receiving Stripe Climate as their first customer. Let me introduce you to these amazing innovators:

Arbor ($500/ton): This company converts biomass waste into valuable products, such as electricity, while storing CO₂ underground. Their technology is adaptable to different biomass types and features an advanced turbine for maximum efficiency.

Arca ($1,318/ton): Arca utilizes mining waste to convert CO₂ into carbonate rocks. Autonomous rovers work directly at the mine site, reducing CO₂ emissions and eliminating transportation costs.

Captura ($984/ton): Using an electrochemical process, Captura separates acid and base from seawater. The acid removes CO₂ in seawater for underground injection, while the base is used to treat and return the water safely to the ocean.

Carbon To Stone ($394/ton): This company is pioneering a new form of direct air capture by regenerating CO₂-binding solvents with alkaline waste materials, ultimately reducing energy consumption.

Cella ($228/ton): Cella's unique method of CO₂ storage involves injecting it into volcanic rock formations alongside saline water and geothermal brine waste, lowering costs and minimizing environmental impacts.

CREW ($810/ton): CREW is developing container-based reactors that accelerate the weathering of alkaline minerals, converting CO₂ from wastewater into bicarbonate ions for safe and permanent ocean storage.

Inplanet ($480/ton): Inplanet applies silicate rock powders to farmlands in Brazil to permanently sequester CO₂ and regenerate soils. The region's warm and wet conditions lead to faster reactions, which are monitored and reported publicly.

Research Grants and Diverse Investments

Thanks to your support, two companies have also received $500,000 in research grants to advance their frontier technologies. As members of Stripe Climate, we have contributed to a diverse portfolio of 29 projects, increasing the chances of meeting our global climate goals.
